About Us

Since opening our doors in 1996, Steppin Out Dance & Tumbling Studio has been a place where passion for movement meets community, creativity, and growth. What began as a small studio with a big dream has grown into a trusted destination for families throughout Pella, Monroe, Grinnell, Prairie City, Otley, Knoxville, Reasnor, Sully, Lynnville, Newton, and beyond.

For nearly three decades, we’ve had the privilege of watching dancers take their very first steps, build confidence, form lifelong friendships, and discover a love for dance that stays with them long after they leave the studio.

At Steppin Out, we believe every student deserves a place to belong. That’s why we offer a welcoming environment where dancers of all ages and skill levels can explore their interests—whether they’re stepping into the studio for fun, building fundamental skills, or training at a competitive level.

Our class offerings span a wide range of styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, musical theater, acro, tumbling, and more. We also offer engaging adult classes and an award-winning competitive dance program for those ready to take their training to the next level. No matter the path, our experienced instructors are dedicated to helping each student grow with confidence, discipline, and pride.

We know families have choices when it comes to dance education, and we don’t take that lightly. Our team is committed to creating a positive, organized, and encouraging experience—not just for our dancers, but for parents as well. What We Offer

Our Services include:

Smaller Class Sizes: Our smaller class sizes allow students to get instruction that is more individual from teachers. As a result, students progress at a faster rate than in a large class environment. Our smaller class sizes also ensure that the teacher can catch any problems before they turn into bad habits or improper techniques.
Variety of Dance Styles & Methods: Highly qualified teachers with varied training and teaching methods are available to teach a wide range of dance styles.
Our Dance Studio Advantage: The "Floating" Professional Dance Floor. Our "Floating" Dance Floor rests on a system of high-density foam to absorb the shock and impact of regular dance movement. This benefits students by reducing fatigue and preventing injury that can result from dancing on hard surfaces. Contact us now to learn more.
Kindergarten Dance - For ages 3-5: From the age of three, children enjoy a fun introduction to the basics of dance. This program provides a solid foundation for future success in Ballet, Jazz, Tap and other styles.
Ballet: Ballet is the building block of dance! Steppin Out Dance Studio offers ballet training from beginner through advanced levels. An additional ballet technique class is available for serious students. All ballet classes are 30 minutes. Ages 3 & up.
Tap: Tap is an exciting way to make rhythms and beats come alive with our feet. Tap is available at a variety of levels and as a combo class with ballet and/or jazz. Ages 3 & up.
Jazz: Jazz is the more upbeat funky kind of dance. We dance to all styles of music. Jazz is available in a combo class or as a separate class. Ages 5 & up.
Tumbling: Tumbling classes are available at a variety of levels from beginner through advanced. We mix the beauty of acrobatics with dance to come up with a program that focuses on tumbling technique, strength, flexibility, and balance as well as the coordination of dance. Ages 3 & up.
Jazz-Pom: Jazz-Pom is available at a variety of levels. This is a way of blending the fun of Jazz with the sharpness of pom. Ages 6 & up.
Pointe: Pointe is for the ballet student who wants to further their ballet interest. These students must have at least 3-4 years of ballet training. Dancers need to have strong feet and ankles. Each student must check with the director before registering for this class. Ages 10 & up.
Combo: Combination classes are for the student who wants to explore different styles of dance. We offer combos of Ballet, Tap & Jazz or a combination of Tap & Ballet, Jazz & Ballet, or Tap & Jazz. Ages 5 & up.
Hip Hop: This is a fun class that lets your children explore a new style of dance most often seen in music videos!! Ages 5 & up.
Drill Team Prep: Drill Team Prep is available to teens that are serious about making the High School Drill Team. Ages 12 & up.
Clogging: Clogging is a high energy, exciting style of dance. You must have Tap experience in order to take this class. Ages 10 & up.

What is your mission?

Our mission is simple: to give students of all ages the skills, confidence, and joy they need to enjoy dance for a lifetime.

What does tuition look like and do you offer any discounts?

Our season runs from September through May, with tuition divided into nine equal monthly payments. This structure provides consistency regardless of the number of classes in a given month.

We also proudly offer a 10% family discount for each additional child, making it easier for families to participate together.

Monthly Tuition Rates:
• 30-minute classes: $40
• 45-minute classes: $58
• 60-minute classes: $70
• 75-minute classes: $75

What performance opportunities are available for students?

Our students have many exciting opportunities throughout the year to showcase the skills they develop in class—whether for fun or competition!

Annual Recital
Each year, we host a high-quality, professional dance recital that highlights our students’ hard work and progress. Performances take place at local high school auditoriums in Pella, Newton, and Grinnell.

Community Performances
Students may also perform at a variety of community events, including Old Settlers in Monroe, the Iowa State Fair, county fairs, local parades, and Thursdays Uptown in Pella. Summer performances are optional, but they provide great opportunities for students to gain experience and wear their costumes multiple times.

Competitive Dance Team
For dancers looking to take their skills to the next level, our Steppin Out Competition Team performs at events across the country, including in Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, San Diego, Las Vegas, Branson, and Hawaii.
